In a recent Vanity Fair interview, Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman, stars of the hit HBO series "Big Little Lies," shared a humorous moment that revealed a little behind-the-scenes banter about names.
Discussing the dynamics of addressing their co-star Laura Dern, Kidman expressed her puzzlement over Witherspoon's choice to use "Dern" instead of "Laura."
“I hate how you call her Dern,” Kidman confessed, to which Witherspoon explained, “‘Cause my name is Laura, and her name’s Laura and it’s confusing to me.”
Kidman admitted she had forgotten that Witherspoon’s first name was also Laura.
The conversation took a playful turn as Kidman pointed out, “[Dern] doesn’t even call you Laura, though.” Witherspoon retorted with a laugh, challenging Kidman's point and tone, leading to an amusing exchange about the complexities of their on-set names.
The pair also hinted at exciting developments for "Big Little Lies," with Kidman revealing, “We’re moving fast and furious and Liane [Moriarty] is delivering the book.
Yeah, and we’re in good shape,” suggesting that a third season might be on the horizon. However, Kidman cautioned about discussing projects too early.
Witherspoon added her own rule to the mix, “I don’t want to talk about it until I’m standing in the costume on set. Then I will confirm to you that it’s happening,” emphasizing her practical approach to new projects.
