Madonna sued for exposing fans to pornography on stage
Queen of pop Madonna has been slapped with a lawsuit over her Celebration Tour after a Southern California fan filed a complaint saying the massive stadium show he attended in LA forced him to watch “sexually explicit content”.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, fan Justen Lipeles filed a class action complaint against the singer and other entities involved with her Celebration Tour, which pays homage to Madonna’s forty-year career. The lawsuit comes months after Lipeles attended Madonna’s March 7 concert at Kia Forum in LA. Lipeles has accused the pop star and organisers of negligent misrepresentation, intentional inflict of emotional distress, false advertising, and breach of written contract.
The legal filing made references to “pornography without warning and topless women on stage simulating sex acts” on display during Madonna’s show. The lawsuit also accused the singer of lip-syncing through much of her performance and made references to her tardiness on stage. In addition, Lipeles stated that he was “sweltering” at the venue and became physically ill in the heat after Madonna ordered the air conditioning to be turned off as she performed. Representatives for the artist have not yet commented on the lawsuit.
Madonna had also previously faced legal action over her lack of punctuality during her Celebration Tour. The show was billed as having an 8:30 pm start time. However, there were occasions when Madonna did not arrive on stage before 10:30 pm. After being a whopping two hours late, the singer’s apology failed to resonate with fans. “I am sorry I am late… no, I am not sorry, it’s who I am… I’m always late,” the complaint states that Madonna told her audience at a December 17 performance. In response, Madonna’s team cited an unforeseen technical issue.
The publication reported that the incident had led to two fans filing a case over Madonna’s stage tardiness, calling it “unconscionable, unfair and/or deceptive trade practices.”
Showing a history of being late, the pop star had been similarly faced with a lawsuit in 2019 for arriving late to the stage during her Madame X Tour. The case was dismissed at the time.
