As UFC 302 draws near, the spotlight has shifted from the highly anticipated title fight between lightweight champion Islam Makhachev and veteran Dustin Poirier to the return of Khabib Nurmagomedov to ringside.

This marks the first time in two years that the retired legend, known as "The Eagle," will be in a fighter’s corner, adding a significant layer of excitement and nostalgia to the event.

Khabib Nurmagomedov, who once trained tirelessly at K-Dojo under Murat Keshtov before moving to the famed AKA gym in California, recently revisited his roots in a heartwarming reunion.

In a video shared by Khabib, he surprised his former coach and engaged in an intense training session, showcasing his enduring bond with his old gym.

This visit, filled with nostalgia, comes just days before he steps back into the UFC spotlight to support his protégé, Islam Makhachev.

Makhachev, who boasts a 25-1 record and is on a 13-fight winning streak, is preparing for his third title defense.

Facing him is Dustin Poirier, who has had two previous unsuccessful attempts at the lightweight title, one of which ended in a submission defeat to Khabib.

Now, Poirier faces the daunting challenge of Khabib's protégé, with "The Eagle" himself in Makhachev’s corner, which many fans see as a psychological advantage.

The presence of Khabib at UFC 302 has overshadowed the fight itself, drawing comparisons between the rising Makhachev and the retired legend.

Fans are eager to see if Makhachev, under the guidance of Khabib, can emulate the dominance of his mentor.

With 16 of his 25 victories coming by finishes and a reputation for formidable grappling and striking, Makhachev is seen by many as the heir to Khabib’s legacy.

This fight is more than just a title defense for Makhachev; it’s a chance to solidify his place in the lightweight division and continue the Dagestani legacy.

For Poirier, it represents possibly the final opportunity to claim the championship belt.

As the excitement builds for UFC 302, the combination of Khabib’s return and Makhachev’s quest for greatness ensures an electrifying night for MMA fans.
