Jennifer Lopez’s latest science fiction film, ‘Atlas,’ on Netflix, received mixed reviews from critics however the movie has claimed the top spot on the streaming platform.

Lopez’s ‘Atlas’ is ranked as the No.1 movie on Netflix with an impressive 28.2 million views during its premiere weekend, from May 24th.

The actress and singer is playing the role of data analyst, Atlas Shepherd, who is deeply concerned about the dangers of artificial intelligence.

The New York Times considered that the movie has an “intriguing concept” but criticized the film’s aesthetic and lack of originality.

“It looks, in a fashion we’re getting used to seeing on the streamers, kind of cheap, dark, plasticky and fake, particularly in the big action sequences,” said the news outlet.

“Science fiction often earns its place in memory by envisioning something new and startling — but with Atlas, we’ve seen it all before,”  said the New York Times

NYT appreciated Lopez for flinging “herself into the role with abandon, the kind of performance that’s equally impressive given that she’s largely by herself throughout.”

However, Variety, argued that Lopez “seems to be perfunctorily running the bases” in the “predictable, overlong and bland” movie.

Despite facing criticism from reviewers, the streaming performance of 'Atlas' shows that it is liked by the audiences.
