Actor Nicholas Galitzine has been cast as He-Man in the upcoming live-action film "Masters of the Universe", according to Variety. The film is a collaboration between Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Films.

The project is based on the classic Mattel toy line and will be directed by Travis Knight, with a script by Chris Butler. David Callaham, Aaron Nee and Adam Nee worked on an earlier draft. Escape Artists’ Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, and Steve Tisch will produce the film alongside Mattel Films’ Robbie Brenner.

"Masters of the Universe" will be released in theaters worldwide on June 5, 2026. The franchise, which centers on the battle between He-Man (Prince Adam of Eternia) and the evil Skeletor, was first introduced as a line of action figures in 1982.

In a statement to Variety Julie Rapaport, head of film production and development at Amazon MGM Studios, said, "We’re thrilled to bring the beloved Masters of the Universe to life and couldn’t be more excited to announce the immensely talented Nicholas Galitzine as our He-Man."

Mattel Films’ President, Robbie Brenner, added, "Mattel Films is proud to work with Amazon and team up again with the incredible Courtenay Valenti, to bring Masters of the Universe to the big screen. We are thrilled to be producing alongside the highly respected and prolific Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, and Steve Tisch, with the visionary Travis Knight, and the charismatic and talented Nicholas Galitzine, our Prince Adam/He-Man!"

Galitzine himself shared the news on Instagram, writing, "It has been a dream for so long to play someone of his heart, humour and heroism, I cannot wait to get started."

The film was previously in development at Sony and Netflix, but was cancelled by Netflix in 2023 due to budget constraints.
