Matthew Perry's Death: The DEA and LAPD launch criminal investigation

Authorities are investigating the source of ketamine that led to the "Friends" star's overdose in October 2023.

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) informed Variety that they have initiated a criminal investigation into the death of actor Matthew Perry, who passed away in October 2023 due to acute ketamine effects.

The investigation seeks to determine how Perry obtained the ketamine and the amount that led to the fatal overdose. Prior to his death, Perry had been receiving ketamine infusion therapy to manage depression and anxiety. However, the toxicology report revealed a lethal level of ketamine in his system, causing cardiovascular overstimulation and respiratory depression.

Perry's sudden passing at the age of 54 shocked the world, prompting tributes from his "Friends" co-stars and fans alike. His fellow cast members expressed their devastation and described him as more than just a colleague, but a beloved member of their family.

The ongoing investigation aims to shed light on the circumstances surrounding Perry's tragic death and potentially prevent similar incidents in the future.
