Ellen DeGeneres to return for final stand-up special on Netflix
Ellen DeGeneres is making her much-anticipated return to stand-up comedy with a final special on Netflix, scheduled to debut later in 2024.
In this follow-up to her 2018 special "Relatable," DeGeneres promises to address the "elephant in the room" – her controversial exit from "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" in 2022.
The show's conclusion was marred by allegations of a toxic workplace environment, including harassment accusations against executive producers.
DeGeneres acknowledged her responsibility for the workplace culture, apologised to her staff, and three executives were subsequently fired.
In her statement announcing the special, DeGeneres playfully assured fans that she would address the situation, stating, "To answer the questions everyone is asking me – Yes, I'm going to talk about it."
This new special marks a significant return for DeGeneres, a comedy legend who broke ground in 1997 when her character on the ABC sitcom "Ellen" came out as gay, mirroring her real-life experience.
Throughout her career, DeGeneres has hosted numerous award shows and her own popular game show, "Ellen's Game of Games."
Robbie Praw, VP of stand-up and comedy formats at Netflix, expressed excitement about DeGeneres' return, emphasising her status as a "true legend and pioneer."
In addition to the Netflix special, DeGeneres will embark on a multi-city stand-up tour starting in San Diego on June 19.
