Andy Cohen addresses John Mayer dating rumours
Hollywood BFFs spark speculation again, but Cohen assures fans it's just brotherly love
Longtime friends Andy Cohen and John Mayer have once again ignited rumours of a romance, but the Watch What Happens Live host is setting the record straight.
“Let them speculate! I honestly love John Mayer, and he loves me,” Cohen told The Hollywood Reporter. “But because we’re so affectionate toward each other, people don’t know what box to put that in.”

He added, “They assume we’re sleeping with each other, which we are most definitely not."
Fans have often questioned the nature of their relationship and public displays of affection. Cohen joined Mayer for his 40th birthday bash in Brazil, and Mayer was at Cohen’s baby shower in 2019 and even serenaded the host on his 50th birthday.
Their platonic love extends beyond birthday celebrations. Mayer had also delivered a speech at Cohen's Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony in 2022.
Cohen told The Hollywood Reporter, “When he inducted me into the Hollywood Walk of Fame, John Mayer said that I unwittingly have become a gay best friend to people who never had a gay best friend. That really moved me,”
This isn't the first time Cohen has addressed romance rumours. In June 2023, he said he was “in love” with Mayer on SiriusXM's The Howard Stern Show, but clarified that it was not romantic.
Cohen also explained their relationship on an episode of iHeartPodcasts’ Table for Two in 2022, “He is someone to say, 'I love you and I cherish you and I cherish our friendship' — just this stuff that straight guys aren't necessarily supposed to say.”
Despite the confusion, Cohen questioned on his Radio Andy show, “Are two men not allowed to say they love each other?”
While co-host John Hill poked fun at the idea of Cohen enjoying the romantic rumours, the TV personality confessed that the constant speculation actually feels “weird” to him.
Though they've been dispelling rumours for years, Cohen credits Mayer's emotional openness for strengthening their friendship. “He's very in touch with his emotions,” Cohen said on iHeartPodcasts' Table for Two.
The pair simply enjoy their close companionship. “We have a very sweet friendship, and we are together all the time,” Cohen previously told CNN, adding about the dating rumours, “It just seems like the obvious assumption.”
