Industrial areas: PM asked to pay surprise visits
prime minister to pay surprise visits to industrial areas to know the problems faced by the business community.
KARACHI:
The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (Unisame) urged Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Tuesday to remove hurdles in the growth of small and medium enterprises (SMEs). In a press release, Unisame President Zulfikar Thaver said that SMEs could not grow due to the deteriorating law and order situation, corruption, heavy taxation and load-shedding. He urged the prime minister to pay surprise visits to industrial areas to know the problems faced by the business community. “The SMEs are reluctant to invest, and this will affect the economy badly,” he said. He said that although many entrepreneurs in the large-scale sector had taken their businesses to other countries, SMEs had stayed back and were facing hardships. “They are in a position to compete globally, but are suffering due to bad governance at home,” he said.
