The Sindhi Shagird Tehreek organised an event at the Hyderabad Press Club Auditorium on Sunday to commemorate the 206th birthday celebration of the renowned philosopher and founder of Marxism, Karl Marx.
The event also marked the central convention of the Tehreek, where Naveed Abbas Kalhoro was elected as the central president and Ali Raza Jalbani as the general secretary.
A gathering of male and female students from universities and colleges participated in the event, which included the ceremonial cutting of Karl Marx's birthday cake alongside discussions on his life, thoughts, and philosophies.
Speakers at the convention underscored Karl Marx's enduring legacy of advocating for freedom from oppression and slavery. They lauded Rasool Bakhsh Pleejo for his efforts in disseminating Marx's scientific thought and philosophy to the masses, particularly in Sindh, thereby ushering in new dimensions of people-centric politics.
Amidst contemporary challenges, including land encroachments and corporate farming, the drying of River Indus, and concerns over diminishing democratic freedoms, the speakers stressed the need for students in Sindh to mobilise and safeguard the region's resources and identity.
Highlighting the threats to journalism and impending restrictions on social media, the speakers called for a united and robust struggle akin to the historic March 4 movement to uphold Sindh's integrity and ensure the protection of its people's rights.
The convention served as a rallying point for students and activists to reaffirm their commitment to Marx's principles of social justice and equitable governance, laying the groundwork for a concerted effort towards a more just and inclusive society in Sindh.
