Jimmy Fallon recently opened up about a hilarious misunderstanding he had with Nicole Kidman during a 2015 interview on “The Tonight Show.”
On a Deadline podcast, the actor revealed they had once gone on a date, leaving Fallon completely “blindsided.”
“Nicole Kidman totally blindsided me on my show,” he said. “We were just there to talk about one of her movies or something she was going to win an award for. She was great and she looked amazing and we were talking and she goes, ‘Did you know that we dated?’”
Fallon recalled being baffled in response, “And I go, ‘Excuse me?’ She goes, ‘Do you remember like I had a crush on you and I came over to your apartment?’ And my face just melted. It was the most embarrassing thing.”
Kidman admitted to having a crush on Fallon back then and went to his apartment for what she thought was a casual date.
In the earlier 2015 interview, she admitted, “I just remember I liked you. Not now, I am married now,” referencing her current husband, musician Keith Urban.
However, Fallon, completely oblivious, thought it was a “chemistry read” for the movie “Bewitched.”
Speaking about the aftermath of the interview, the “Tonight Show” host called Urban a “good sport,” "What's been fun is running into Keith Urban at all these parties and stuff, who's a really good sport.”
The story has now become a running joke between the two, who have even joined hands to prank the “Big Little Lies” actor.
Fallon revealed, “I went up to [Keith] at the Met Gala, I saw him last time and I go, ‘Hey, I think that we might have dated once,’ and he was laughing. He goes, ‘Nicole’s talking to someone across the table. Why don’t you go and just hold her hand? She’ll think it’s me and then I’ll go around the table and wave at her.”
Kidman was reportedly startled by the prank.
