Ahead of NFL draft, Jelly Roll hypes up crowd at “The Night Before” show
Rapper and genre-bending artist, Jelly Roll, performed a crowd-pleasing set at the Fillmore Detroit.
The show on Wednesday night, dubbed "The Night Before" in a nod to the upcoming NFL Draft, was a homecoming for the Tennessee native, who called Detroit his "second home."
Despite the Fillmore's smaller capacity compared to his recent Pine Knob show, the Detroit Free Press reports that energy levels were high.
The 1-hour, 15-minute set featured a mix of fan favorites from his breakout albums
“Ballads of the Broken” and “Whitsitt Chapel,” along with a brand new song, “Liar.”
Jelly Roll sported a Detroit Tigers hat, and praised Eminem and Bob Seger as two of his “favourite” artists during his set.
A highlight was his performance of “Son of a Sinner,” his chart-topping 2022 hit, where he thanked WYCD radio personality Tim Roberts for taking a chance on his music early in his career.
Fans, many of them WYCD contest winners, were treated to a special preview of “Liar,” a new song with a catchy 70s vibe.
The show marked Jelly Roll's sixth Michigan performance in the past year, with a headlining set at July's Faster Horses Festival on the horizon.
