A teacher has been arrested for thrashing a student with sticks for failing to learn a lesson.

The police intervened following the circulation of a video showing the teacher’s mistreatment of the young student on social media.

As per officials, Tahir, a resident of Chak 115GB, informed the police that his seven-year-old son had gone to Jamia Masjid Ghousia for learning Holy Quran.

He alleged that his son was subjected to severe beating by the accused, Qari Muhammad Tanweer, with sticks due to his failure to learn a lesson by heart.

The boy suffered injuries on various parts of his body.

When the child’s father approached the authorities of the madrasa, they alleged that the boy had fought with other children.

The complainant stated that the teacher had conceded his mistake and apologised to him.

Jaranwala Saddar police arrested the suspect and registered a case against him under section 338A of the PPC.

Meanwhile, a woman injured by her husband earlier succumbed to her injuries at Allied Hospital. Batala Colony police handed over the body to the heirs after medico-legal formalities, amended the case and applied murder charges.

According to officials, Mehmood alias Bilal, a resident of Sattiana Road had shot and wounded his wife Samira on February 24 following a domestic dispute. She was transferred to Allied Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

Batala Colony SHO Junaid Nazir Gujjar formed teams to arrest the suspect. Police said then suspect was a drug addict.
