Sheryl Crow has seemingly gone back on her previous statement. In 2019, she declared that her album "Threads" would be her final one. However, she recently surprised fans by releasing a new album titled "Evolution."

Speaking to Morning Edition host Debbie Elliott, she explained,  "I know, I know, I can't count on what's going to come out of my mouth next." “I didn't intend to put out an entire full-length album. It still feels like a playlist of new songs. So that's what I'm going to call it: a playlist of new songs by Sheryl Crow. How's that?"

"Evolution" includes previously released singles like "Alarm Clock" and a cover of Peter Gabriel's "Digging In The Dirt," featuring Gabriel himself.

Regarding her latest project, Crow in an interview with CLASH said, “This music and these lyrics came from sitting in the quiet and writing from a deep soul place. I said I’d never make another record, thought there was no point to it. But this music comes from my soul. And I hope whoever hears this record can feel that.”

In terms of critic reception, CLASH has given the album a rating of '8/10,' describing it as “ Truly compelling, her artistry and perspective will make us all open our eyes a little bit wider whilst continuing to hanker after the beautiful human experience”

Crow also performed the title track, "Evolution," during a recent episode of Late Night with Seth Meyers.
