An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Punjab’s provincial capital on Monday remanded three people accused of leading a mob with an alleged aim to lynch a woman in police custody for three days.
Earlier, police presented the accused—Muhammad Nadeem, Adil Sarwar, and Al Tamash Saqlain—before ATC Judge Arshad Javed and sought their custody for investigations.
The investigating officer in the case told the court that the accused had gathered a mob and not only harassed but also attempted to kill the woman who had come to Ichchra Bazaar wearing a dress bearing calligraphy in Arabic language.
He said the suspected had accused the woman of disrespecting religion. He submitted that the police timely intervened and rescued the woman. After hearing arguments, the court remanded the accused in police custody. It directed the police to present them again in court on expiry of the remand term.

The woman was saved by the law enforcers just a few minutes after being encircled and harassed by an angry crowd that wanted to punish her for allegedly disrespecting "holy verses".
