Peshawar furniture expo inaugurated

Businesspersons demand special incentives for K-P furniture industry

Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) Vice President Ijaz Khan Afridi has urged the government to take pragmatic steps for the promotion of the furniture industry in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and to address issues affecting the sector.

Ijaz Khan Afridi said that the furniture industry had played a pivotal role in economic development and enhancement of the country’s exports which needed to be increased to an optimal level.

He was speaking as chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of the International Furniture and Craft Fair Pakistan 2024 Expo in Peshawar, said a press statement issued here on Saturday.

Various Pakistani and international furniture stalls have been set up at the expo.

During the opening event, RF Events Private Limited CEO Dr Nazish Faisal, organisers, representatives of partners, and members of the business community were present.

Ijaz Afridi heaped praise on a variety of furniture products of different designs displayed in the exhibition and asked RF Events Private Limited and various brands to share their issues with the SCCI so that the chamber could take them up with the government.

The SCCI vice president also stressed the huge potential for investment in the furniture sector of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and urged the creation of maximum opportunities for promotion of the furniture industry and investment in the sector.

On the occasion, the expo organizer told the SCCI vice president that his organization was planning to hold a Furniture Expo (Pak-Afghan Transit Exhibition) in Kabul, Afghanistan for which collaboration of the chamber was required upon which Ijaz Afridi assured him that the SCCI was ready to cooperate in that regard.

Ijaz Afridi also expressed satisfaction over the organization of the Peshawar mega furniture expo and hoped such events would continue in Peshawar and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as well as in the rest of the country.

Later, the SCCI vice president visited various stalls set up at the exhibition and lauded the furniture designs as well as the quality of the displayed brands.

He was also presented a shield by the expo organizer as a memento of his visit.
