ISLAMABAD:

A nutritionist has emphasised incorporating spinach, a green leafy vegetable into the routine diet to improve overall health and well-being.

Nutritionist Dr Sadia Batool stated that spinach has gained recognition as a nutritional powerhouse because it offers a wide array of benefits such as it improves skin complexion, improves bone health, and regulates blood pressure.

She stressed the role of lutein and zeaxanthin in spinach, highlighting how these compounds accumulate in the retina, act as a natural filter for blue light, and combat free radicals. She also highlighted the protective mechanisms that may lower the risk of age-related macular degeneration (AMD), underlining the potential benefits of sharpening vision in individuals with AMD.

While discussing the impact of spinach on the skin, the nutritionist said spinach is full of essential vitamins and antioxidants that contribute to healthier and more vibrant skin tone.

The high level of Vitamin K content in spinach plays a crucial role in supporting bone health she said adding that studies suggest that increased consumption of fruits and vegetables, especially green leafy spinach leads to a more radiant complexion.

Additionally, she suggested that regular consumption of spinach and other green vegetables will enhance bone mass.
