KARACHI:

The city police chief, Khadim Hussain Rind, has expressed concern over the way new year is celebrated in the country, often marked by aerial firings and riots leading to loss of lives and injuries. In a video message addressed to citizens, AIG Rind said that special measures have been implemented by police for the upcoming new year eve.

While encouraging people to celebrate, he urged them to do so responsibly without causing harm to anyone. AIG Rind warned that individuals engaging in aerial firing or rioting would face legal consequences, specifically invoking Section 324 for attempted murder.

To ensure safety, plainclothes police personnel will be deployed during new year celebrations, and video recordings will be made. The city police chief appealed to the public to record any instances of aerial firing or rioting and immediately share them via WhatsApp at 03302699211. Informers' identities will be kept confidential, and they will be rewarded with a cash prize as an incentive.

According to the Karachi police spokesperson, AIG Rind has directed all zonal DIGs to take strict legal action against those involved in aerial firing during new year celebrations.

Despite annual orders to strictly prohibit aerial firing and file cases against offenders under attempted murder charges, each new year's night witnesses the city resonating with gunfire, leading to the arrival of injured citizens at government hospitals due to stray bullets.
