Fares go down after POL price dip
In the wake of the decline in the prices of petroleum products across the country, the Rawalpindi district administration has also announced to reduce the fares for public transport by up to seven per cent.
In this regard, the teams of Rawalpindi Commissioner Hassan Waqar Cheema have ensured that the new fares are properly displayed at the transport hubs after the matters were settled in a meeting between the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) secretary and the public transporters.
According to the details, the district administration and the RTA sprang into action after the reduction of Rs14 in the prices of petroleum products. On receiving orders from the DC, RTA secretary Muhammad Rashid held a meeting with the transporters and bus stand owners and informed them about the new fares after which the fares of the public transport plying in and out, inter-district and inter-provincial were reduced in the garrison city.
Talking to The Express Tribune, the RTA secretary said he held a meeting with the public transporters and stand owners and asked them to reduce the fares in proportion to the reduction in the prices of POL products, after which they agreed to reduce the fares by five to seven per cent. “Banners of new fares have also been displayed at various bus stands,” he said and added that the fares of public transport plying between the twin cities have been reduced by five per cent. According to sources, earlier, the stop-to-stop fare was Rs35, which will now be Rs30. The previous fare from Rawalpindi to Lahore was Rs1,200 which will now be Rs1,100.
