Ex-minister to contest polls as independent candidate

Mehtab stepped down as senior PML-N leader, saying party was turning a blind eye to public issues, ignoring workers.

Former federal minister Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan has announced that he will contest the upcoming general elections as an independent candidate, saying that the country’s dignity has been lost due to political leaders and rulers.

In February, Mehtab had stepped down from the post of senior PML-N leader, saying that the party was turning a blind eye to public issues and ignoring workers.

Addressing a workers convention in Malkot here on Friday, the former minister said, “Political parties have become political sects. There is revenge in the name of accountability in the country. Improvement cannot be achieved by putting the leaders of a single party in jails.”

For the sake of the young country, he appealed, vote for the honest leadership in the election and send them to parliament.
Mehtab said that he had stayed away from practical politics for 10 years, but after seeing the country's situation, he could not sit quietly.

“The country is suffering from an economic crisis. The common man is falling down. The dignity of the country of Pakistan has been lost because of the rulers. Instead of sitting at home, I have left home.”
