BAHAWALPUR:

In the aftermath of a Bengal tiger mauling incident, South Punjab Additional Chief Secretary Captain (retd) Saqib Zafar conducted a thorough inspection at Sher Bagh Bahawalpur, accompanied by Deputy Director Wildlife and Zoo Curator Syed Ali Usman Bukhari.

The visit primarily focused on evaluating the security infrastructure around the tiger cage. Captain (retd) Saqib Zafar scrutinised the grills and security arrangements, including a review from the vantage point of the tiger cage roof.

He engaged with the administration, posing queries related to the unfortunate incident, and gathered details about the night duty security staff.

Expressing concerns over safety protocols, Captain (retd) Saqib Zafar directed the installation of secure gates at stairs leading to the roofs of animal cages.

Emphasising controlled access, he mandated that these gates remain locked and only be opened when necessary. In addition, he ordered the comprehensive installation of CCTV cameras throughout the Sher Bagh premises.

The additional chief secretary underscored the establishment of a dedicated control room to monitor the zoo through the newly installed cameras.
