Auqaf dept mosques to get prayer areas for women

Soomro directs Mahesar to allocate a separate place for women to pray in 77 mosques of Sindh Auqaf Department

KARACHI:

Sindh government has decided to allocate a separate place for women to pray in all mosques of the Auqaf Department which looks after the worship places of all faiths, shrines and temples which are under the government control.

In this regard, Minister of Law and Auqaf Muhammad Umar Soomro chaired a meeting at the office the Auqaf Department.

Auqaf Secretary Munawar Mahesar, Additional Secretary Auqaf Department and other officers participated in the meeting.

In the meeting, the officers were briefed on the registration of mosques, madrasas and allocating separate place for women to pray.

Soomro directed Mahesar to allocate a separate place for women to pray in 77 mosques of the Sindh Auqaf Department and issue a circular. He also directed an awareness campaign in English, Urdu, Sindhi and Gujarati languages.

The minister ordered to expedite the process of data collection of all registered and unregistered mosques in Sindh and to take assistance of other departments in the exercise.

Soomro also directed the Auqaf and the Religious Affairs departments to initiate consultation process with all stakeholders for introducing technical skill programmes and IT courses in seminaries.

In the meeting, Secretary Mahesar while giving a briefing said that 8,903 madrasas have been registered across Sindh, while work is going on to register more mosques and madrasas.
