LAHORE:

The Government College University (GCU) administration has refused to accept the services of around 70 teachers after recruitment.

According to sources, the associate professors, assistant professors and Lecturers from across the country had been selected but the administration did not sign their joining letters.

GCU’s acting VC Dr Ahmad Adnan said the selection was illegal as the syndicate had not given permission for the appointments.

The protesting candidates said the university had initiated the recruitment for various departments in August. "We had been engaged in the process of recruitment for three months,” said one of the candidates.

“The process of the recruitment was initiates during the tenure of former VC Dr Asghar Zaidi,” said an official of the registrar’s office.

"The former VC carried out the process during the caretaker set-up. However, after I took charge of the VC office, it transpired that our syndicate had not allowed the recruitment,” said Dr Adnan.
