Petitioner demands appointment of high court judge to oversee investigations into ‘killings’ by LEAs personnel

The Sindh High Court (SHC), in response to petitions filed by Tahmas Rizvi Advocate and Zulfikar Jalbani, the former vice chairman of the Sindh Bar Council, against the murder of innocent villagers in Mari Jalbani village of Sakrand, has issued notices to the Sindh government, interior minister, IG   and other parties.

A two-member bench headed by Justice Naimatullah Phulpoto heard the petitions.

Barrister Salahuddin, the lawyer of the petitioners, contended before the judge that a judicial commission should be formed to be headed by a serving judge of the High Court to investigate the tragic incident that occurred in the Mari Jalbani village of Sakrand. That commission should conduct an impartial investigation of the incident. The officials responsible for the murder of innocent villagers should be arrested and a case should be filed against them.

On September 28, the village of Mari Jalbani in Sakrand was raided by the police and other law enforcement agencies and during the operation four villagers were killed while 12 villagers, including women and children, suffered critical injuries in the firing by the LEA personnel.

The court accepted the petitions and issued notices to the Sindh government, interior minister, IG, and other parties for the next hearing which was postponed for a week.

Barrister Salahuddin Ahmed, Barrister Syed Haider Imam Rizvi and Barrister Shoaib Ali Khatian represented the petitioner.

Restoration of power, water supply ordered

A two-member bench, headed by Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi, heard a petition against disconnecting electricity and water supply of a dialysis centre in Kathiawar Cooperative Housing Society, issued orders to restore connections.

The counsel for the petitioner took the stand that they have been running the dialysis centre for a long time and now the society has cut off the electricity and water supply.

The court remarked that if you have any problem with them, cancel the lease.Kathiawar Society’s lawyer stated that they are doing some import and export at the centre.

Justice Aqeel Ahmad Abbasi remarked, it is said, they are importing and exporting. Tomorrow they will say, they are selling kidneys.

The court ordered to restore electricity and water connections in thre days under the supervision of a supervisor. The court adjourned the hearing till October 18.
