PESHAWAR:

Judge Muhammad Adil Khan of the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Tuesday took action by placing two policemen allegedly involved in extortion and an attack on the residence of a local government representative under a five-day physical remand.

In response to a request from the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), the judge granted custody of the two accused, identified as Abdul Qadir and Hayat, to the CTD for further investigation into this case.

The accused officers, operating in Tehsil Bara within the Khyber district, were reportedly engaged in extortion attempts targeting local government representatives.

The investigation officer informed the court that both accused individuals were named in FIR No 183, necessitating a thorough investigation.

It was noted that a high-level Joint Investigation Team (JIT) had also been formed to delve into the matter. Notably, one of the policemen sustained injuries while attempting to assault the residence of a local government representative in Bara, leading to his arrest alongside an Afghan national.
