SHC acquits accused in acid attack case

In the case of an acid attack on a woman, the Sindh High Court (SHC) acquitted one of the defendants while upholding the conviction of the other.

Shahid Wilayat, one of the suspected individuals, had attempted to appeal his conviction, but the court rejected his argument and affirmed the original verdict. On the other hand, the suspect, Kashif Masih, was acquitted by the court due to insufficient evidence.

In the initial trial, the lower court had sentenced both the accused to 14 years of imprisonment with hard labour.

According to the plaintiff’s account provided to the police, she was employed at Jannat Medical Care and Old Home Malir.

On February 16, 2020, the accused, Kashif, contacted her and requested a meeting. Upon her arrival at the office, Kashif’s brother, Shahid Masih, presented a fraudulent marriage certificate.

She realized Shahid’s malicious intention and tried to go away when Shahid threw acid at her, injuring her seriously.
