PESHAWAR:

The local government employees of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) are scheduled to go on a strike across the province and protest in Peshawar on Sept 20 to press for their demands for the resolution of issues, including the personal ledger accounts (PLA).

In this regard, the Provincial Unified Group of Functionaries (PUGF) officers have announced their support for the All Pakistan Local Government Workers Federation (APLGWF), assuring it of their participation in the demonstration at the Provincial Assembly Chowk on Wednesday (tomorrow).

A delegation of the PUGF Officers Association met with APLGWF President Naveed Awan on Monday, according to a statement issued here.

Awan said that whenever there was a difficult time for the local bodies, “our federation will stand in front of every cruel and oppressive ruler”. Awan also chaired a meeting of the United Workers Union.

The participants condemned the closure of the PLAs by the provincial government.

They said that the closure of the PLAs had nearly bankrupt the local bodies.

They added that the provincial government was paralysing the local bodies.

On the other hand, the salaries of the fixed-pay employees of the municipal bodies, subordinate educational institutions, as well as the municipal inter schools and colleges had been increased from Rs21,000 to Rs35,000 by Peshawar Mayor Haji Zubair Ali.

The mayor chaired a meeting regarding municipal inter-schools and colleges to discuss the salary of the teachers recruited on fixed pay.

The committee increased the salary of fixed pay teachers from Rs21,000 to 35,000.
