ISLAMABAD:

The United Nations, in collaboration with district administration, convened the eighth installment of a 12-part series of dialogues on sustainable development in Quetta, with the overarching goal of bridging the gap between the people and their government.

UN Resident Coordinator in Pakistan, Julien Harneis, remarked, "These dialogues bring the United Nations closer to the people and the local governments that we serve. "

In the Quetta dialogue, participants focused their discussions on four key themes chosen in advance: governance, digital transformation, youth employment, and water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH). The gathering featured the active participation of nearly 100 local leaders, both women and men, including youth. It also saw the presence of senior officials from Quetta, the United Nations Resident Coordinator, and other UN representatives.

These dialogues with local leaders revolve around critical development issues such as access to essential social services, gender equality, climate change, sustainable and inclusive economic growth, and decent employment opportunities.
