The Rawalpindi Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) has developed a new water supply scheme to provide clean water to the population of 75,000 people of Lakhan, Dhamial and Mohri Ghazan, three of the most densely-populated union councils (UCs) in Rawalpindi district.
The project was expected to cost Rs494.10 million and is scheduled to be completed in two years.
For this scheme, seven new tube wells would be installed in the adjoining area of Gorakhpur.
Due to Gorakhpur’s proximity to the Soan River, there is abundant storage of underground water here. Meanwhile, the underground water level has fallen to 850 feet in the UCs of Lakhan and Mohri Ghazan.
Under this scheme, an eight-kilometre main line would be laid from tube wells to both UCs. The land has been identified where the tube wells would be built, said a source within the department adding that Gorakhpur has 5,000 kanal of Wasa-owned land.
The construction of a pumping station and two overhead tanks is part of the scheme.
As a result of the scheme, 25,000 water connections would be provided in the areas. The project of setting up a mega sewage water treatment plant here has also been included in the annual development programme.
