SC gives 7 days to prepare cheques for nullah victims

Top court orders compensation to be paid to over 6,000 victims of Gujjar, Orangi and Mehmoodabad nullas within 30 days

KARACHI:

The Supreme Court ordered to prepare cheques of more than 6,000 victims of Gujjar, Orangi and Mehmoodabad nullas within seven days and pay them in the next 30 days. The court also ordered to submit the progress report in 15 days.

A special bench comprising Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Syed Hasan Azhar Rizvi, heard the contempt of court petition against Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah regarding the rehabilitation of Gujar, Orangi and other nullah victims in the Supreme Court Karachi Registry.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, former Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah, Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab, Commissioner Karachi and Advocate General Sindh Hasan Akbar appeared with the report.

Victim’s lawyer, Faisal Siddiqui Advocate said that the chief minister is misrepresenting, the Supreme Court had rejected the petition.
