The Sindh High Court (SHC) has granted the appeals of Salman Abro, the son of SSP Ghulam Sarwar Abro, and other co-accused in the tragic murder case of O-Level student Sulaiman Lashari.
A two-member bench, headed by Justice KK Agha, delivered the verdict, thereby overturning the previously imposed sentences on Salman Abro, Imran Ali, Maqbool Ahmed, and Yasin Ahmed.
The court gave its imprimatur to a mutual settlement reached between the concerned parties, culminating in the prompt release of the accused from their incarceration.
Salman Abro, alongside his cohorts, had been accused of orchestrating the fatal shooting of Sulaiman Lashari on May 8, 2014.
An anti-terrorism court had previously adjudged the accused, but after nine years, the plaintiff decided to pardon Salman Abro, who happens to be the son of a police officer.
The case was formally registered at Darakhshan police station.
Meanwhile, the court unleashed a scathing critique of the law enforcement apparatus and the home ministry, casting doubts on the efficacy of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) and the provincial task force.
The court ordered the appointment of an SP rank officer to lead the investigations into cases concerning missing persons.
The court also directed the IG Police and relevant authorities to institute comprehensive and tangible measures to redress the quandary of missing persons.
