The Lahore High Court (LHC) has directed the authorities concerned to facilitate a meeting between former chief minister of Punjab Chaudhry Parvez Elahi and his wife on Thursday. The ruling was issued by Justice Raheel Kamran on a petition filed by Qaisera Elahi, the wife of the former CM.
The petition highlighted the authorities’ failure to permit her to visit her husband who is currently detained under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) law.
The petitioner cited legal provisions allowing families of detained individuals to meet them twice a week.
She urged the court to instruct the authorities to allow a meeting between Chaudhry Parvez Elahi and his family.
Earlier on July 17, the deputy commissioner of Lahore had issued a 30-day detention order for Parvez Elahi based on a request from the police.
