GUJRANWALA:

The performance of the police in solving the cases and completing the road challans in the entire district is very poor.

In the light of this situation, CPO Rana Ayaz Salem called all the investigators, SHOs, in charge of investigations, SDPOs and SPs at a meeting where he took the investigators to task and ordered the officers to ensure that the cases in pending were decided on merit and sent to the court for justice.

He had given the officers one month's time to comply with his orders.

The cases of the year 2022 should be sent to the court and report submitted to the CPO’s office.

Those who were found to be negligent in performing their duties would be dealt with sternly.

More than 17,000 cases of the year 2023 are pending and thousands of cases of the previous years have not been solved either.

The CPO during the meeting with investigators, in charge of investigations and SHOs expressed his extreme displeasure over the state of affairs.

Orders were issued to solve over 21,000 cases, including last year’s cases.

Action will be taken against the slow-performing investigators. Civil Lines Divisions tops the list of stations as far as the matter of pending cases was concerned while the City Division stood second.

Gujranwala Wazirabad currently has a total of 30 police stations where 23,571 cases have been registered during the last seven months, but because the investigation system is very weak and flawed, the resolution of cases and the system of taking them to court is even slower.

So far only 6,584 cases which were with investigators in 2023 have been sent to the court.

The road challans are complete, and some of them are under hearing and some have been decided.

The rate of sending cases to court is only 27% while as per the order of the IG of Punjab 80% or more is required, and in this regard the Civil Lines Division happens to be at the top of the list where a total of 7,623 cases of current year are pending. Out of which 6029 are under investigation while 159 have not been given road challans.

The Civil Lines Division is followed by the City Division with 6,134 pending cases. Out of which 4488 are under investigation while 1646 road challans have not been given.

Similarly, the cases of the year 2022 are still in progress, in which 30,045 cases were registered, 26,562 were sent to the court. The rate comes to 88.41 percent but this year, 1263 cases are under investigation while 2,246 road cases are pending.

This year, too, the Civil Lines Division is at the top with 1922 pending cases.

There are 813 pending cases in City Division while 744 cases in Sadar Division are pending.
