Old GT Road through Sahiwal to be rebuilt

Divisional authority approves 16 development projects

The Sahiwal Divisional Development Working Party (DDWP) has approved 16 uplift schemes worth Rs3.468 billion, including the reconstruction of the 6.5km Old GT Road passing through the city.

According to officials, a 2.2km single-track portion of the road would be expanded as dual carriage-way at a cost of Rs1.73 billion and the entire road would be carpeted.

Two development schemes will be executed in Sahiwal, three in Pakpattan and 11 in Okara district.

The schemes were approved in a meeting presided over by Commissioner Shoaib Iqbal Syed and attended by divisional and district officers of the departments concerned. The details of the projects approved in the meeting had been submitted to the Punjab government and received a go ahead.

The participants approved plans for the reconstruction of Okara Arts Council at a cost of Rs150 million, increasing the capacity of an under-construction disposal station at Chak 2/4L in Okara with Rs165.9 million and upgrade of a sports ground in Pakpattan at a cost of Rs153.5 million.

A road construction and repair project from Adda Bottipal to GT Road and Adda Jhal to Chak Mirdad in Sahiwal district with an estimated cost or Rs70 million had also been submitted to the provincial government.
