KARACHI:

The long-awaited monsoon season has finally arrived in the metropolitan city, bringing relief in the form of light rain and drizzle to different neighbourhoods on Thursday. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted more rain with occasional thunder and gusty winds in the upcoming days. On Thursday, the maximum temperature was recorded at 36 degrees Celsius.

As the afternoon rolled in, delightful showers began to drench the city’s suburbs, including M-9 Motorway and Superhighway. Alongside the rainfall, a gentle breeze swept through Gadap Town and Gulshan-e-Hadid. The rain system cast its charm over diverse areas, such as MA Jinnah Road, Clifton, DHA, and Saddar.

According to the PMD’s report, Gulshan-e-Hadid received 1mm of rain, while Jinnah terminal recorded 0.2mm. The monsoon wind patterns have embraced Sindh, painting a hopeful picture for intermittent thundershowers in the city over the next two days, accompanied by gusty winds.

While Karachi enjoys the pleasant showers, rural districts of Sindh will continue to be blessed with rains until July 23-24. However, a word of caution for the public: Strong winds have the potential to damage weak structures, so it is essential to remain cautious and take necessary precautions.

Prior to the monsoon’s arrival, Karachi experienced hot and humid weather throughout the day on Thursday, with humidity levels exceeding 70 per cent. The combination of high humidity and scorching afternoon temperatures gave rise to a heat index that felt even hotter than the actual temperatures.
