Three of a family drown in Indus River

Local volunteers along with rescue 1122 divers retrieve bodies

Three persons, all belonging to the same family, among them two minors, drowned in River Indus near Attock Kurd bridge on Monday.

According to Police and Rescue 1122 sources, 38-year-old Yasir Nawaz belongs to Jatial village Hazro along with his 10-year-old son Saim Nawaaz and 9-year-old niece Eshal Fatima went for a picnic at River Indus where Eshal slipped and drowned in the river. Yasir jumped in to save her, but he also lost his balance and drowned. Taking his father in distress, Saim also jumped into the river but could not control himself due to the deep water and also drowned.

Later, local volunteers along with rescue 1122 divers retrieve the bodies and shift them to the Tehsil Headquarters hospital.

On the same day, the Attock Khurd police on Tuesday apprehended two female members of an interprovincial racket of drugs and counterfeit currency dealers and recovered narcotics and fake currency from their possession.

During an inspection at the Attock Khurd search check post, police uncovered 1.50 kgs of heroin. The contraband was seized from a female smuggler, identified as the spouse of Shah Faisal and a resident of Nawagai Mardan. The suspect was travelling in a passenger van destined for Rawalpindi from Peshawar. Police sources said that the cost of recovered narcotics was worth millions of rupees.

In another attempt, police foiled a scheme to smuggle fake currency worth Rs1 million from KP to Punjab. Police sources said during checking fake currency notes of Rs5,000 amounting to Rs1 million were recovered from another female suspect, wife of Khushi Muhammad, a native of Sanda Lahore.
