RAWALPINDI:

In order to make the helmet campaign successful, the City Traffic Police (CTP)’s crackdown against motorbike riders without helmets is under way in the garrison city.

During the ongoing crackdown, the CTP has also issued challan tickets to 8,000 motorcyclists without helmets at 45 pickets, set up to check the illegal activity, in just five days. The imposed fines amounted to over Rs1.6 million while more than 130 motorcycles were impounded in different police stations over violations.

CTP sources said strict action was being taken against the bike riders without helmets on the orders of the Punjab Inspector General of Police Dr Usman Anwar.

In this regard, Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Taimoor Khan also inspected various highways of the city to make the ongoing helmet campaign successful and to ensure no fuel without a helmet. “The intentions of CTP Rawalpindi is not to issue challans but the protection of citizens is our priority,” he said.

The CTO instructed the CTP personnel to issue a challan to the motorcyclists for hanging the helmet in their arm and keeping it on the fuel tank.

“The helmetless motorcyclists will face the music,” he said. “Citizens should ensure the use of helmets to protect themselves and their loved ones. If you don't know the usefulness of a helmet while driving, we will explain it to you,” he added.
