Coaching centre murder suspects still at large

SHC orders immediate arrest of culprits in student's murder case

KARACHI:

The Sindh High Court (SHC) has ordered the police to arrest the accused involved in a shooting incident that claimed the life of a student at a coaching centre in Gulshan-e-Iqbal.

The order was issued by Justice Salahuddin Panhwar while hearing a plea on Wednesday. Muzamil Mumtaz Mayo Advocate, the petitioner's lawyer, stated that the accused forcibly entered the coaching centre on January 6, indiscriminately firing rounds from a Kalashnikov. As a result, a student, named Ahsan, was killed.

While the police did file a case, the investigation has been marred by negligence, undermining the pursuit of justice. Additionally, the trial court had issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for the accused, but the police inaccurately recorded their residential addresses, further impeding progress.

The court ordered the police to promptly take the accused into custody and produce them before the trial court. The judge expressed deep dismay over the police's lackluster investigation and their failure to apprehend the accused. The court particularly ordered the immediate arrest of the named accused, Talha and Luqman.

The court set a deadline of July 20 for the police to apprehend the accused and submit a comprehensive report, detailing the progress made in the case.
