In pursuance of IG Police Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon’s directives related to the distressing incidents of dumping of
newborns’ bodies on garbage dumps, the Karachi police have registered the first case under abortion provisions after the discovery of a neonate’s body in Ittehad Town.
According to reports, IG Memon had instructed DIGs and SSPs across Sindh to take action against those who have been dumping bodies of newborns in back lanes and on garbage piles. In a letter, he underlined the responsibility of police officers and welfare institutions in this matter.
Dead chickens
Separately, the Steel Town police on Tuesday apprehended the driver of a pickup truck loaded with dead chickens near the National Highway. Approximately 200 dead chickens stuffed in sacks were recovered from the vehicle, which were intended for delivery to restaurants across District Malir.
As per SHO Nand Lal, a police team, led by Sub Inspector Yar Muhammad, set up a roadblock near Somar Goth Mor on the National Highway after they were tipped off about the transportation of the chicken. They intercepted
a white Suzuki pick-up, traveling from Gharo to Karachi.
Upon inspection, sacks containing dead chickens were found in the vehicle. The driver, Rizwan, was arrested and taken to the police station where a case was filed against him.
During initial investigation, the detained driver revealed that the dead chickens were intended for supply to restaurants in different areas of District Malir, including Gulshan-e-Hadid, Steel Town, and Malir City. The chickens
were collected from different poultry farms and then transported to Karachi.
A few weeks ago, the Awami Colony police also apprehended several people and seized cargo vehicles carrying dead chickens. The arrested suspects admitted to supplying these chickens to restaurants situated along the National Highway.
However, the police have yet to identify the specific restaurants involved in purchasing these dead chickens.
