Scores arrested for flouting Section 144 at Khanpur Dam

HARIPUR:

In a tragic incident, a 35-year-old man was shot dead by unknown assailants in the Karwala area of Haripur within the jurisdiction of the Sarai Saleh police station.

According to a spokesperson for the police, the Sarai Saleh police upon receiving information about the incident reached the crime scene to probe the matter.

He said the police team shifted the victim’s body to the Haripur Trauma Center for necessary medico-legal formalities.

Following the completion of the autopsy, the body was handed over to the deceased's heirs.

In response to the unfortunate incident, the police have launched an investigation into the matter and registered a case.

Meanwhile, several youngsters were apprehended by the police for bathing in Khanpur Dam despite the enforcement of Section 144.

According to a police spokesperson, the police registered a First Information Report (FIR) and detained the individuals involved.

He said strict measures have been taken to address the issue of youths bathing in the dam during the summer season.

Despite the ban, on Sunday, a significant number of young people disregarded the prohibition and ventured into the canals surrounding the deep waters of the dam and spillway.

Police teams booked the apprehended individuals under Section 188/34 PPC.
