BEIJING:

Pakistan is setting its sights on a $1 billion trade target with China through land routes in the coming years, revealed Ghulam Qadir, the Commercial Counselor at the Embassy of Pakistan on Saturday. The successful transportation of a seafood cargo container to the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region via the Karakoram Highway has paved the way for this ambitious goal.

Qadir expressed his enthusiasm for the export of food items, particularly seafood, from Pakistan to China through the land route. He emphasised the need to capitalise on this achievement to boost exports. The Pakistani side aims to reach $1 billion in long-term trade through the land route, with hopes of achieving millions of dollars in exports and trade in the coming fiscal year.

The spokesperson of the Chinese foreign ministry welcomed the export of high-quality agricultural products from Pakistan to China via land transportation. Affirming the close cooperation between China and Pakistan as all-weather strategic cooperative partners, he assured their commitment to enhancing bilateral trade through land routes.

Recently, Pakistan’s first-ever seafood cargo container arrived in Kashgar city, , marking a significant milestone in trade relations.
