PMDC decides to conduct national MDCAT on August 27

Syllabus will remain same as that of last year; 210,000 students expect to take test

ISLAMABAD:

The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) decided on Sunday to conduct the national medical and dental college admission test (MDCAT) on August 27, 2023 from the syllabus same as the last year’s exam.

The PMDC held its second council meeting, with its President Dr Rizwan Taj in the chair. The meeting considered the matters related to national registration exam, MDCAT other issues, said a statement issued after the meeting.

Taking up the most important agenda of the meeting, it was decided that the MDCAT exams would be held on August 27, 2023.The council also decided that the syllabus of the MDCAT would remain the same as last year’s exam.

The council directed all the provincial secretaries to start preparation for the MDCAT exam, the statement said, adding that the decision had been taken keeping in view the larger interest of the students.

Last year, almost 204,259 students appeared in the exams. According to estimates this year 210,000 students are likely to sit in the exam. The council emphasised that, prior to exams all stakeholders would be taken on board to ensure secrecy of exams.

The MDCAT paper difficult index would also be taken into consideration for ease of students without compromising merit this year to ensure that all provinces conducted exams without any trouble to students.

It was decided that NUMS would be the admitting university responsible for admissions to all armed forces administered medical and dental institutes. NUMS admission test shall be considered at par with national MDCAT.

The meeting was attended by Prof Dr Amjad Siraj Memon, Prof Dr Zubair Khan, Jawad Amin Khan, Barrister Sultan Mansoor, Noorul Haq, Dr Mahmud Aurangzeb, Prof Dr Tahmina Asad, Surgeon General Lt-Gen Mohsin Qureshi, Health Secretary Prof Dr Muhammad Shoaib Shafi and all the provincial secretaries and their nominees.
