ISLAMABAD:

K-Electric has submitted a petition to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra), requesting an increase of Rs0.489 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) in power tariff under fuel charges adjustment (FCA) for April 2023.

Separately, K-Electric, a listed company privatised in 2005, has requested a hike of Rs5.170 per kWh on account of quarterly adjustments for January-March 2023.

Nepra will conduct a public hearing on May 31, 2023 on the petition submitted by K-Electric on account of FCA for April 2023 and quarterly adjustments for January-March 2023.

“As per prevailing laws and regulations, these (FCA) are one-time charges, which are expected to be applied to bills of only one month,” said a statement issued on Friday.

On the other hand, the impact of quarterly adjustments is usually not passed on to consumers under the uniform tariff policy applicable across the country.

FCA is sought by utilities due to variation in global prices of the fuel used to generate electricity and the change in power generation mix. Under the policies governing the power sector, these costs are passed through to the customers for one month only, following Nepra’s scrutiny.
