Milk price goes up by Rs20 in Hyderabad

Dairy traders say will sell milk at Rs200 per litre; yogurt rates likely to hit Rs300 per kg

The price of milk has been increased by Rs20 per litre without any prior announcement.

Milk Retailers and Vendors Welfare Association, Hyderabad, General Secretary Nasir Ghori confirmed the increase in the price of milk and said that the new price of milk of Rs200 will be implemented from Tuesday or Wednesday.

According to the dairy farm owners, the price of milk has been increased due to the high cost of fodder.

Milk sellers say, they cannot sell milk at lower rate if they are purchasing it from dairy farms at higher price. The yogurt price is expected to rise to Rs300 per kg.

For the citizens of Hyderababd, buying milk at the official price of Rs160 per litre, notified by the deputy commissioner, was just a dream. People were paying Rs180 per litre for the essential item and will end up paying Rs200 too.

Justifying the price hike, Hyderabad Dairy Farmers Association President Shaukat Jatoi, before Ramazan, cattle fodder was available at Rs2,800 to Rs2,900 per 40kg which was currently available in the market at Rs4,500 per 40kg.

Similarly, the milch buffalo which used to be sold for Rs100,000 was now tagged at Rs400,000.
