RAWALPINDI:

About 450 literate youths will benefit from the first freelance IT hub (IT Park) being completed under the Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation soon after it is made functional in the next two weeks, Rawalpindi Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chattha claimed on Thursday.

“This IT park, established on the pattern of Arfa Karim Randhawa IT Park in Lahore, will be connected to the international business network,” Chattha said.

“IT-educated young boys and girls will be able to earn employment by developing their projects related to new software development and IT expertise,” he added.

Talking to The Express Tribune, the commissioner said he has decided to make the IT Park project functional in the next two weeks.

According to details, the community centre building constructed in Chaman Zar Colony, which is connected to Murree Road, Rawalpindi, has been converted into an IT hub after expansion and construction with a new design for Rs65 million.

From this project, on the one hand, the RMC will get a reasonable source of income and on the other hand, the educated and unemployed youths, who have skills and interest in the field of IT, will be able to find employment by researching and developing IT projects.

A fee of Rs10,000 has been fixed for using the IT hub facility. The functionalisation of this project, which can accommodate 450 people, has entered its final stages.

Due to the non-availability of such an IT freelance hub in the private sector in Rawalpindi, the existing community centre has been converted into an IT park, where apart from parking, the facilities of a fast food restaurant and a security system have also been provided.

A new link road connected to Murree Road has also been constructed to access the IT Park, with separate entry and exit points.

Chattha said: “This freelance IT hub will be made functional soon. The IT Park will prove to be a source of good employment in the IT sector for the educated youth in Rawalpindi city for which the services of IT experts are also being procured so that the young boys and girls who want to acquire international-level expertise in the field of IT can also get the best guidelines.”

The commissioner said that the RMC officials have also shown extraordinary interest in the completion of this unique project of IT Park, after the successful experience of which, bringing new projects in this regard will also be reviewed.
