Much-awaited Eid outing, Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan (KKBKKJ), directed by Farhad Samji, starred Salman Khan and Pooja Hegde in lead roles. The Bollywood film hit the screens in India on April 21, 2023. Since then, Khan's latest offering has been receiving mixed reviews from the audience and critics alike.
Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan follows the story of Bhaijaan (Salman Khan), a skilled self-defence trainer who lives with his brothers and often resorts to using physical violence to solve conflicts. However, when he falls in love with Bhagyalakshmi (Pooja Hedge) he decides to change his ways and lead a peaceful life with her.
As their relationship progresses, Bhaijaan discovers that Bhagyalakshmi's family is in grave danger due to their past rivalry. Determined to protect his loved ones, Bhaijaan sets out on a mission to safeguard them from harm.
According to the box office reports, the film collected INR68 million in its opening weekend and has maintained a decent momentum at the ticket windows. The film earned around INR90-110 million on its fifth day, taking its total earnings close to INR800 million.
Although the film's box office performance has been good so far, the reviews from the critics have been mixed. The Times of India described the film's plot as "wafer-thin" and "bloody action with little semblance to logic and normalcy." The review also criticised the loud performances and lack of kick-start until the interval.
Bollywood Hungama praised the film's direction by Farhad Samji, who handled the grandeur and scale of the film well. The review also mentioned that the family angle in the second half would be loved by family audiences and the film would appeal to a wider audience base, not just Salman Khan's fans.
Pinkvilla highlighted that the second half of the film is where the plot picks up the pace and finds its focus, whereas the first half frequently leaves the audience perplexed and tests their patience. The review also praised a few of the action scenes and the song Yentamma.
The Indian Express, on the other hand, described the film as a "tired, unimaginative amalgamation of every Salman Khan version" and criticised the non-existent plot that only serves the legend of Salman Khan.
As for the audience reviews, the film has an audience score of 56% on Rotten Tomatoes, with 50+ ratings, and a rating of 7.2/10 based on 25000 reviews on IMDb. 62.5% of the ratings on IMDb are 10/10, 17.7% are 9/10, and 14.9% are 1/10.
In conclusion, Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan has been performing well at the box office despite mixed reviews from critics. The film's plot has been criticised for its lack of logic and normalcy, but some reviews have praised the direction and family angle. The film has a significant fan following, as evidenced by its high ratings on IMDb, and it remains to be seen how it will perform in the coming days.
