KARACHI:

Six people were injured in an explosion at a factory making bakery items near Bilal Chowrangi in Korangi Industrial Area.

The explosion damaged the office and kitchen of the company too.

Korangi Industrial Area SHO Inspector Aurangzeb Khattak said that it was initially reported that the explosion occurred due to a cylinder blast. However, Inspector Khattak said, investigations suggest that gas leaking from the compressor of an air conditioner caused the explosion.

He said that the investigation has revealed that the gas accumulated in the gap between the roof and the false ceiling and an electric spark ignited the explosion.

The people injured in the incident were hit by shards of broken glass and other objects along with the burn injuries.

Meanwhile, the incident is under further investigation, Khattak said.

The injured were shifted by the volunteers of Chhipa to Burns Ward of Civil Hospital. Rescue officials say that those injured in the blast were identified as 25-year-old Mushtaq, 30-year-old Naeem, 20-year-old Mata, 30-year-old Bashir and 35-year-old Qasim while one of the injured could not be immediately identified.
