Turkish national robbed of Rs1.5 million, foreign currency in Karachi

Victim says robbers were in police uniform and driving a white car

A Turkish national was robbed of about Rs1.5 million and Turkish liras near Kakar Hotel on Abdullah Haroon Road, Saddar in Karachi. The victim, named Tekin Maitan, reported the incident to the Preedy police.

Maitan informed the police that he works for D Baloch Company and that he has come to Karachi from Hyderabad. Maitan said that he had a bag containing Rs1.5 million, 2,150 Turkish liras and other important document and he was going to a money changer in his car when a white car abruptly halted in front of his vehicle.

The passengers of the vehicle were in police uniform. They asked for his identity and what was his purpose to be here? The victims showed them his passport which they checked and returned. Then they asked about the vehicle’s ownership. He told them that this is his company’s car. Later, the suspects snatched his bag with money and documents and drove away. Tekin Maitan said, he tried to stop them by holding their car’s steering wheel but they escaped.

The Preedy police have registered a case and initiated inquiry into the incident.

Last month, armed robbers snatched a whopping Rs59.4 million from a builder in Karachi's Bahadurabad neighbourhood.

According to the police, the four unidentified suspects escaped after robbing builder Raheel Abdul Ghaffar of the huge amount at gunpoint near a superstore within the limits of Bahadurabad police station.

The victim informed the police in his statement that he is a resident of Defence Phase IV and has an office under the name of OK Estate & Builder in Bahadurabad. He narrated the details of the incident, stating that at around 11 o'clock on Tuesday (March 1) evening, he was in his car along with his driver when their car was intercepted by two accused riding a car near a superstore and bakery in Bahadurabad.
