KARACHI:

A judge has disposed of the acquittal plea of Dania Shah, the third wife of popular televangelist, lawmaker, and TV personality Dr Aamir Liaquat Hussain, in a case involving leaking some objectionable video clips that allegedly led him to commit suicide.

The judicial magistrate for District East disposed of the petition after it was withdrawn by the counsel for the defendant Liaquat Gabool on Thursday. Dania Shah, who is also a TikTok celebrity, appeared before the judge.

She is accused of recording objectionable video clips of her now-deceased husband and then uploading them to social media which immediately went viral, putting Dr Hussain under a lot of mental stress which ultimately led to his death.

She was arrested by Cybercrime Wing of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) from her home in Lodhran district of Punjab on December 16, 2022 on the complaint of Dr Hussain’s daughter.

Dania Shah’s lawyer took the plea that after the plaintiff’s statement there was no case against his client because the FIA did not have any evidence against Dania Shah.

During the proceedings, Dania Shah submitted before the judge that she wanted to change her lawyer. To which, the court directed her to obtain a no-objection certificate (NOC) from her lawyer first.

While speaking to the media briefly outside the court, Gabool confirmed that Dani wished to change her lawyer. “I have no issue to give her an NOC, if she pays up the outstanding dues,” he added.
