Doctors highlight glaucoma prevention
A Glaucoma Awareness Walk organised at the Lahore General Hospital was attended by a large number of doctors, nurses and paramedics.
The Principal of the Post Graduate Medical Institute, Prof Al-Fareed Zafar, emphasised on the occasion the importance of eyesight and stated that more than 4.5 million people around the world are blind because of glaucoma.
He also warned against excessive mobile phone usage and working without computer shields, as they can harm eyesight.
Glaucoma, which is a leading cause of blindness worldwide, has no cure yet.
However, early diagnosis is crucial in preserving one’s eyesight.
Everyone is at risk of developing glaucoma, including children and the elderly.
According to the World Health Organisation, glaucoma is the second leading cause of blindness globally.
Prof Muhammad Moin and Prof Hussain Ahmad Khaqan stated that many people in Pakistan are suffering from glaucoma, and the disease can affect any age group.
MS Dr Khalid bin Aslam added that LGH has modern medical equipment for timely diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma.
